A SALUTE TO WOMANHOOD

Gender under addressed

Subjected as weaker sex

Of kitchen relevance

One consequential purpose considered

Baby producing machine

But the address in the modern

Refuted, rejected and rightly rectified

Whatever for the goose, the same for gender

Proved, perfected and produced in all

Democrat Christine Gregoire

The exalted shepherd of Washington

Indian Mira Nair

Globally respected film director

Number one African Man O’ W…

Wearing Noble Peace Price crown

Kenyan Wangari Muta Maathai

A salute to your humdinger of class

The “ Bush” of Philistine

Gloria Arroyo, an evergreen feat

Okonja-Iweala of the highest,

Populated global Black race

Meticulous brain not “his” alone

Ita Giwa’s innovations.

In brainstorming and forwarding the nation

“Obasanjo” of Indonesia

Megawati stories are forever

Her painting Nigeria of gold

Ajunwa’s paint and brush on record

Quartet champions in Africa

Soaring highest and on topmost,

Written boldly in gold, for global look

Ever-golden Falcons of Nigeria

Standing unmovable, a healthy gate

Amazon champion Dora Akunyili

This hood’s talents greatly in vogue

Leading role in myriad of homes

Now taken and maintained

Liberation to the Eves!

A positive global eye-opener,

I salute you, all women of substance.

YULETIDE

Over two thousand years ago

In the timbucktoo

In a kampong

Area of Bethlehem

Was a bouncing baby boy born

The gift of the Holy Ghost received

As it was prophesied

The exodus of the magi

Tracking a yonder star

The glad tidings from cherubim

They threw away weariness

And became drunk in their feet.

The journey was rough

The cold was tough

But their faith gave them nurture

Prognosticating its regaling end.

At the advent,

The directing comet

Stopped and stood still

Like the sun on the day Jericho fell

The rhapsody of the magi began

Fulfilled, accomplished and completed,

They sauntered in

The ecstatic sight of the infant king

The Holy child was beheld

They bowed in obeisance

Gold, myrrh, frankincense perfumed

The nostril of the live bambino

Who had come to exonerate mankind.

He grew the world

With his celestial word

Of encouragement and courage

Of hope and inspiration

Of providence and healing

He gave his word to the world

Through him the world

recovered the word

Though he departed the world

His word built anchors on earth

The humdinger works of the creator

Makes us righteous again

And sons of the Almighty again

The duty of the world,

Being to fulfill and obey His word

As we wellnigh approach the Yuletide,

Let the advancing Noel

Remind the world of His word

That cleansed us to snow

To be pure before the Almighty

Encomiums we must shower on Him

Well shouted and hurrahed

Like the “Hosanna!!! Hosanna!!!”

During the Triumphant Entry

As we wait for His birthday

Let us also be wary of His last coming

When we shall join Him in immortality

Let not his birth memorial

Be dedicated to booze and barbecue

Let not the malady ‘December rush’

Consume our people

Let sons of Bacchus and daughters of Jezebel

Not mingle with Xtians

Beware! Or be led into a bacchanalian

Let not Yuletide be for obesity

For He who is the reason for the season

Watches all in disgust

His anger is mounting,

          His patience failing

Retrace your steps

Return to righteousness

Don’t be carried away

By the wind of Yuletide.
TIDE OF GRIEF

The celebration of the yuletide

Looked gay, but calamity arcane lurked

The dinning and winning of the Noel

Unknown to myriad of souls, their last supper

Scientists, the intelligent sources

Defeated and unaware taken

Jamboree, jag and jubilee

Changed by the juggernaut

In its jaywalk manner of

Destruction, deterioration, demolition and death

Dominated and one of the greatest

Negative and macabre history made.

Gifts-boxes opening day was the dark day

Far beneath the ocean floor,

Turned death house for the myriad

Helpless bodies and property of sort

From a tidal wave, of a massive shake

Sudden, unexpected and deadly it was

Which traveled at jet speed

The Earth shrugged and sloshed,

Some 300,000 kicked the bucket

About 12 nations in the tide of grief

And losers, picking up the pieces

The bulk of the all-consuming incident

The scale of its calamity

Touched even the rocky heart.

As the death incident roared by

Still and contorted bodies, like sand

An event truly worse than war

Our Asian brothers

Owned the multitudinous prey

Swept by a single wave,

20 boys on Marina Beach cricketing

Big story in the greatest story

On a double Sunday plus four-day baby

On mattress atop the deep

In fettle condition and crying

After the most devastating action

Incomprehensible the Most High acts

Aftermath; the storm settles

Amid disaster, new confidence

The global call of relief

The human interest response

An eye opener, sensitization caused

The failed check of science

Regrouping for better check and alert

Others living around the ocean

To sleep in snatches and play the vigil

TSUNAMI! O’ tide of grief!

Let not thy horrible hurricane

Besiege the Earth dwellers, any more!
