Mrs. Doris Onakpoma hails from Abavo, Ika South Delta State-Nigeria she had her elementary education at Ubiv Primary School, Anglican Girls Grammar School, Benin City, Edo State and at St. Teresa’s College, Ughelli, Delta State. Later, she proceeded to College of Education, Warri where she obtained a Nigerian Certificate in Education (Biology/Chemistry option). She further proceeded to University of Benin where she bagged a B. Ed. in Biology. In 1994, she proceeded to United States where enrolled for a nursing course at Beth Israel Nursing School, Manhattan, New York. At present, she is a resident nurse in Brook-D

ale Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. She is married with children.

Big flying airplane

Fly! Fly! Fly!

Big noisy airplane

Can I fly with you?

Up there in the sky.

LOST KITTEN

I have two pet animals

A kitten and a puppy

Both of them are very little

And they love to play with me

One day my kitten got lost

In the woods

It mewed and mewed helplessly

My puppy heard it

And yelped at the woods

I looked at my puppy

And it ran to the woods

I ran after it

And together we found my lost kitten.

THE RAINBOW

I saw a rainbow in the sky

That looked like a big bow

It had many colours

Like my crayon pencils

I like to paint a rainbow

On my drawing pad

I will paint a big rainbow

Like the one in the sky

It will have many colours

It will have bright colours

It will have seven colours

Like the one in the sky.

Blacky my black dog

Every time you bark

Father barks at you

Bow! Wow! Wow!

Mother barks at you.

Never mind father

Never mind mother

Bow! Wow! Wow!

I LIKE TO EAT

I like to eat

I like to eat macaroni

My dog likes to eat

It likes to eat a bone

My hen likes to eat

It likes to eat grains

My goat likes to eat

But it always eats mummy’s crops.

Shoo! Shoo! Goat!

Leave mummy’s crops alone

WE ALL MAKE NOISE

Noise! Noise! Noise!

We all make noise

Noise over here

Noise over there

And noise everywhere

Noise! Noise! Noise!

We all make noise

I can scream

The dog can bark

The goat can bleat

And the hen can cackle

Noise! Noise! Noise!

Noise everywhere

The cow can moo

The duck can quack

The donkey can bray

And the bird can sing

Noise! Noise! Noise!

The forest makes noise

The wolf can howl

The hyena can laugh

The snake can hiss

And the lion can roar.

Noise! Noise! Noise!

The night makes noise

The owl can hoot

The mouse can squeak

Bush babies can cry

And the cockroach can scratch.
